Newsweek – America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers 2021

NEWSWEEK – AMERICA’S BEST AMBULATORY SURGERY CENTERS 2021

Newsweek partnered with global research firm Statista to rank the country’s best ASCs. Venture’s ASCs ranked 5th in California and 9th nationally out of 4,300. Venture ranked behind only UCLA Health in LA County.

ASCs were evaluated on quality of care, CMS performance data, peer recommendations as well as their response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We are grateful for your ongoing support and entrusting us with the care of your patients and I am sure you will join us in thanking our employees who have worked tirelessly throughout.

ROBOTICS – TOTAL JOINTS ARTHROPLASTY

We were able to secure a six-month trial of a Smith & Nephew Navio Robot at Precision, which is a handheld robotics-assisted technology for partial and total knee replacements.

Dr. Michael Hannon led a multidisciplinary team over several weeks which
included anesthesia, nursing, physical therapy, and business office staff to put together a robust total joint service line.

On October 1, Dr. Hannon performed the first robotic partial knee replacement at Precision with the patient being discharged later that afternoon. Dr. Hannon has performed a mixture of total and partial
knee replacements each week since. Patients have all been discharged before 5PM on the same day and have recovered well at home.

We are excited to support this program and we are working actively to recruit other surgeons to participate. If we can generate enough interest in outpatient joint arthroplasty, we will look to purchase a robot in 2021. If you have an interest in performing joint replacement cases, or know of surgeons who would, please get in touch with Andy Ball.

SPALDING – AAAHC REACCREDITATION

Spalding is now on its fourth month as our specialty GI center and has grown from 180 cases in July to a record-breaking 264 in October.

In August, Spalding passed its three-year AAAHC reaccreditation survey with flying colors. The surveyors were particularly impressed with the centers state-of-the-art Medivator scope cleaning and processing equipment. They praised the engagement of our physicians and anesthesia team and the measures taken by staff during the COVID-19 Pandemic. In September, Spalding achieved a 100% Patient Satisfaction Score. We are very proud of the work and commitment shown by our Nurse Manager, Eva Abantao and her team.

90210 SURGERY MEDICAL CENTER – JOINT COMMISSION REACCREDITATION SURVEY

90210 will be subject to an unannounced onsite survey by The Joint Commission at any point between now and April 30, 2021. It is important to remain vigilant and survey ready at all times. The surveyors will be onsite for three-days and will inspect life safety equipment and systems, infection control processes and procedures. The surveyors will also trace patients from registration, into the OR and through recovery. If you have any questions about the reaccreditation process please don’t hesitate to contact Benita Tapia.

LINDEN SURGERY CENTER

Renovations to expand the Sterile Processing Department at Linden are scheduled to be completed over the Thanksgiving weekend. This will add significant efficiencies to the turnover of instruments and equipment and will deliver the highest infection control standards.

COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS AND OBSERVERS IN OR

Given the renovations performed at Linden and Precision earlier this year, and the transfer of GI cases to Spalding, capacity at the Venture ASCs has increase significantly. However, whilst our volumes now exceed pre-COVID levels, we are still restricting visitors and that includes observers in the Operating Rooms. The only people currently permitted in the Operating Rooms are those deemed absolutely necessary for the surgery.

PERFORMANCE & OUTLOOK

Our budget target is 896 cases per month. Cases in the period July through September averaged 883 cases, but this short-fall is due to be reversed and eclipsed with October’s performance which is scheduled to be in excess of 1,000 cases.

Orthopedic cases are up 67% over 2019 and ophthalmology has recovered to pre-COVID levels. There have been modest, but sustained increases in GYN, General Surgery and urology. ENT has seen a significant jump since January, and we anticipate these increases to be permanent. Pain Management and GI cases continue to recover and are close to pre-COVID levels.

Provided no unforeseen disruptions over the next few months, we anticipate having a strong end to the year with a Distribution in January 2021 covering the last two quarters of 2020.

We would like to thank you for your ongoing confidence as we operate throughout these unusual times. As always, we encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns.
